Wastewater treatment plants are a necessary part of any community, but they can also be a source of unpleasant odour, that can affect the quality of life for residents. In this case study, we will examine how one residential community was able to eliminate odour from their wastewater treatment plant using an odour control system.

The Challenge: The community was experiencing strong odour coming from their wastewater treatment plant, which was located in a densely populated residential area. The odour was affecting the quality of life for residents, and the community was receiving complaints on a regular basis. The community association committee was looking for an effective solution to eliminate the odour and improve air quality for residents.

The Solution: Aqoza were contacted by association committee, after conducting an air quality assessment, it was determined that hydrogen sulphide from the wastewater collection tank are causing the odour. An odour control system based on gas phase filtration system was proposed that would be able to adsorb odorous compounds like hydrogen sulphide, mercaptans, and other VOCs. Selected odour control system shall be using specific odour adsorbing media developed for wastewater odour removal application, which can wash and re-use multiple times, thus reduces the operation cost of the system. The treatment plant operation team and the community's association committee worked closely with us in understanding the system and its operation and in coordinating the installation of the odour control system.

The Results: The odour control system was installed, and immediately the residents noticed the significant reduction of odour coming from the treatment plant. The community received no complaints regarding odour and the air quality was significantly improved. The filtration system was able to adsorb over 99% of the odorous compounds, and it was able to maintain this level of performance over time.

The Conclusion: This case study demonstrates the effectiveness of gas phase odour control system in eliminating odour from wastewater treatment plants. This type of solution provides an efficient and effective way to improve indoor air quality in residential communities and reduce the risk of odour spreading into the community. It also shows that by working closely with a specialist manufacturer in odour control system, a community can design a system that will meet their specific needs and provide them with long-term benefits.
